Student: I'm losing my colour.
Teacher: What do you mean?
Student: I went on vacation and I was brown like chocolate -just like you Miss Duff and now I'm losing it.
Teacher: (laughs out loud)
I couldn't help but laugh after this conversation. I always say that children are not blind and they notice many things - including skin colour. It is up to us, as family members and educators, to help guide their world, answer their questions and explain concepts such as a tan lol. It's not bad that they notice, it's an opportunity to share and start the conversation.
